The DECKadence Marine Flooring seams are easy to hide … that is if you know a few trade secrets. First, you must use an approved clear adhesive that will chemically weld the material together (contact us for details), this will stay soft and not turn yellow. If you use ordinary PVC glue you will not yield the same results. Next follow the steps below and with a little time… and some experience you too will become the invisible seam expert!

Step 1:
Check the movement of the material of the two pieces you are about to adjoin. Make sure it’s moving in the same direction. The material will have a directional movement not as much as wood but still noticeable if you look closely.

Step 2:
Next take a straight edge and chose one side (and one side only) of the two sides that you will be adjoining and cut with a sharp razor knife (and make sure that the blade is long enough to accommodate the thickness of the straight edge and still cut all the way through the material) a slight bevel (about a 85 degree angle) from the TOP to bottom.

Step 3:
Turn the material over on the back and place weights (sand bags) on both sides and push together until the bottoms meet as flush as you can. The material will want to push away from the bottom seam because of your slight bevel cut. Brush on achieve over the seam and let stand for 60 min.

Step 4:
After an hour turn it upright. At this point you should see no seam; however you will need to strengthen the bond of the material so it stays intact. To do that you will need the squeeze bottle with a modified tip filled with the proper adhesive. Next drill 4 holes in a cross near the tip with a small drill bit (1 to 1.1) should do the trick.

Leave the cap on at all times and Insert the tip into the material just under the surface and squeeze the adhesive out of the four holes into the seam it’s important the holes you drilled do not reach the surface of the material. You want to be just under the surface even more is ok because if the adhesive is touching the surface a seam could arise. Drag the bottle in a slow motion while gently squeezing out the adhesive, also twist the bottle in a clockwise and then counter clock wise motion to ensure distribution of the glue. General rule is the more glue towards the bottom is better and less away from the surface.
